Privacy Policy

Manam is a matchmaking app for Tamil families. Vizha is where the vendors those families hire — halls, caterers, photographers and the rest — list their business. Both hold things people do not put on the open internet, so this page sets out plainly what each collects, what other people can see, who else touches it, and how to have all of it deleted.

Last updated: 11 September 2026

01 Who this covers

This policy applies to two mobile apps and to this website: Manam, where Tamil families look for a marriage match, and Vizha, where wedding vendors list their business for those families to find. The same people build and run both, decide how the information described below is used, and are responsible for looking after it. Where this page says "we", it means them.

Both are for adults. Manam is for people seeking marriage and Vizha for people running a business, and either way you must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete any account we find that belongs to a minor.

The two apps keep separate accounts. Being a member of one does not make you a member of the other, nothing you enter in one appears in the other, and deleting one account does not delete the other.

02 What we collect

Everything below is given by you, as you fill in your profile.

In Manam

  • Account and contact — your name, mobile number, and email address if you provide one.
  • About you — date of birth, gender, marital status, mother tongue, height, weight, and your home address, city, district and state.
  • Community — religion, and for Hindu members the community category, caste, sub-caste, and kulam or gothram.
  • Family — your parents' names and occupations, family type, family status, family values, number of siblings, and any asset detail you choose to add.
  • Education and work — qualification, specialisation, occupation, employer or business name, industry, and the city you work in.
  • Income — the annual income band you select.
  • Birth details for horoscope — your time of birth and place of birth. We convert the place into map coordinates so a chart can be generated.
  • Photos and video — the two profile photographs you upload, and an optional introduction video.
  • Partner preferences — the age and height range, religion, marital status and distance you are open to, and anything you write about the partner you are looking for.
  • Messages — the messages and images you send in a chat after both sides accept.
  • Your activity — requests you send and receive, matches, profiles you save, members you block, reports you file, and feedback you send us.
  • Device — a notification token so we can send you a push when something happens. We do not collect your contacts, your location, or the other apps on your phone.

In Vizha

  • Account and contact — your name, mobile number, and email address if you provide one.
  • Your business — the business name, what kind of vendor you are, the year you started, the languages you speak, a description in your own words, and your address, city, district, state, pincode and how far you travel for work.
  • Your answers — the questions your line of work is asked: capacity, rates, timings, what is included, booking and cancellation terms, and so on.
  • Tax and identity — your GSTIN and PAN if you have them, which kind of identity document you can show if asked, and the last four digits of that document. We never ask for, and never store, a full Aadhaar number.
  • Your work — photographs and video of work you have done, their captions, and the customer stories you choose to add.
  • Your diary — the dates you mark as booked or unavailable and any note you attach to them, and the consultations, orders and designs you record.
  • Your activity — enquiries families send you, changes you make to your listing, and feedback you send us.
  • Device — a notification token, so we can tell you when your listing is approved or an enquiry arrives. We do not collect your contacts, your location, or the other apps on your phone.

03 What other people can see

In Manam

Another member who opens your profile sees your name, photographs, and the profile details above — the community, family, education, work, income band and partner preferences you filled in. Your date of birth is shown, because age and birth details are what families compare.

Never shown to another member

  • Your mobile number
  • Your email address
  • Your time of birth
  • Your place of birth, and its coordinates
  • Your password

Your time and place of birth are used only to produce a compatibility score. The score is shown; the birth details behind it are not. This is enforced in our code and checked by an automated test on every build, so it cannot be undone by accident.

Photographs are watermarked before another member sees them, and are served through links that expire, so a copied link does not stay live.

In Vizha

A Vizha listing is meant to be found. Once it is approved, families browsing for a vendor see your business name, your line of work, your city and how far you travel, your description, the answers you gave about your service and its rates, and the photographs, video and customer stories you uploaded.

Never shown to a family

  • Your GSTIN and PAN
  • The last four digits of your identity document, and which kind it is
  • Your diary — the dates you have marked, and your notes on them
  • Your earnings, consultations and orders
  • Your password
  • Feedback you send us

The tax and identity details are collected so we can check that a business is real before it goes live. They are seen by our review team and by nobody else.

04 Why we use it

  • To create your profile and show it to members who might suit you.
  • To let you filter and search on religion, community, caste, sub-caste, kulam and marital status.
  • To calculate horoscope compatibility between two profiles, where both sides have birth details on file.
  • To open a private chat once both sides have accepted.
  • To send you notifications about requests, acceptances and messages.
  • To review profiles before they go live, and to act on reports and blocks.
  • To keep the service secure, and to prevent misuse.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. There is no advertising in Manam.

05 Who else touches your information

We use a small number of service providers to run the app. They process information on our instructions and for no purpose of their own.

ProviderWhat it doesWhat it sees
Google Firebase Sign-in by SMS one-time password, and push notifications Your mobile number and your device's notification token
Google Cloud (Mumbai) Runs the app's server, and stores photographs and video Your photographs, video, and chat images
Neon (Singapore) The database holding your profile and messages Everything in section 02 except photographs and video
Prokerala Generates the birth chart and compatibility scores Your date, time and place of birth. Not your name or contact details

Prokerala is used by Manam alone. Vizha generates no birth charts and sends it nothing. Everything else in the table serves both apps, in separate databases.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.

06 Where it is kept

Our server and your photographs are hosted in Mumbai, India. Our database is hosted in Singapore, so your profile information is stored outside India. Our horoscope provider processes birth details on its own servers. By using Manam you agree to your information being transferred and stored this way, under the protections described here.

07 Messages and moderation

We do not read or monitor conversations as a matter of routine, and nothing in a chat is scanned or analysed.

There is one exception, and it is deliberate. When a member blocks or reports someone, our team can open that conversation in order to look into what happened. This is how we act on a complaint at all, and it is limited to the conversation that was reported.

Whatever you share inside a chat — photographs, contact details, anything you say — is shared at your own discretion, with a person we cannot vouch for. Please take the same care you would with a stranger anywhere else.

08 How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, it is removed straight away — your profile, your messages, and your photographs and video are deleted from our storage.

Two things work differently, and you should know about both.

  • If you say you married someone you met on Manam and you name them, your deletion is held while our team confirms it with the other person. This exists so a two-person claim is not settled by one person pressing a button. Your account is deleted once that is done.
  • If you married through Manam, we keep a short record of that — your first name, your partner's first name, and the date — so the app can show that real marriages have come from it. It holds no photographs, no contact details, and none of your profile. Tell us if you would rather it was not kept, and we will remove it.

Your sign-in record

Deleting your account removes everything we hold. The sign-in record held by our SMS provider, which is your mobile number, is not removed automatically. Email us and we will remove it.

09 Deleting your account

In Manam

You can delete your account from inside the app, at any time, without asking us. Open Profile, then Delete account, and confirm with the one-time password sent to your number.

In Vizha

Email support@manam.family from any address with "Delete my account" in the subject, and tell us the mobile number your listing is registered under. We delete the listing and everything behind it, and confirm when it is done.

Either app

If you cannot reach the app — you changed your number, or lost the phone — email us the same way and say which of the two you mean. Deleting one account leaves the other untouched; if you use both and want both gone, say so.

Full instructions, and what is kept after deletion, are on the account deletion page.

10 Your choices

  • See and correct — every field on your profile can be opened and edited in the app.
  • Community and birth details — changing religion, caste, sub-caste, kulam, birth details or photographs sends your profile back for a short review before it is live again.
  • Gender — set once and then fixed, because it decides who you are shown to and which side of a horoscope comparison you sit on. Email us if it was set wrongly.
  • Notifications — turn them off in your phone's settings at any time.
  • Language — the app runs in Tamil or English, switchable at any time.
  • A copy of your information — email us and we will send you one.

11 Security

Traffic between the app and our server is encrypted. Passwords are stored hashed, never in readable form. Photographs are served through links that expire. Sessions can be ended remotely, and are ended when an account is suspended.

No service can promise perfect security. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you and the relevant authority as the law requires.

12 Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.

13 Contact us

Questions about this policy, a request for your information, or anything you are not comfortable with — write to support@manam.family and a person will answer.
